Education, a life-long journey, is Learning to Know, to Do, to Be and to Live Together. The values of Openness and Tolerance as expressed in the Teachings of Islam and the Australian Democratic Principles are integral to this definition of learning.
At the Islamic College of Melbourne we believe in preparing students for lifelong learning.
Learning to Know
Although it is important to teach children how to read, write and to understand mathematics, it is also crucial to teach them learning to learn, so as to benefit from the opportunities education provides throughout life.
To Do
Students are continually given the opportunities to apply the knowledge they acquire. These opportunities equip them with the competence to deal with many situations and work in teams. In all areas of learning students are given the opportunity to explore and experiment.
To Be
The values of integrity, trust and respect are the integral parts of the teaching at the Islamic College of Melbourne. Through teaching of Islamic studies and Quran students develop the ability to act with greater autonomy, judgment and personal responsibility.
To Live Together
Students at the Islamic college of Melbourne learn to appreciate and respect the cultural diversity through the multicultural community of ICOM. We teach our students to live together by developing an understanding of other people and an appreciation of interdependence. Collaborative work and managing conflicts enable our students to respect each other and teach them the importance of mutual understanding and peace.
