IVET Excellence Award 2021

On Wednesday the 10th of March, Haijer Dennaoui one of ICOM’s Year 12 VET students was awarded the IVET Excellence Award to recognize her incredible efforts during her VCE VET Sport and Recreation studies in 2020.
Haijer displayed an enormous amount of enthusiasm and a keen interest in the subject area, consistently working hard to achieve her personal best. The Excellence Award is an external state-wide award, which gives a large amount of recognition to Haijer! Well done on being nominated by Ms Layal and ultimately winning the award along with a $500 prize.

Primary Interschool Cricket

Our Primary Interschool Sports cricket teams were competing last week and achieved spectacular results. Both of our teams made the finals on the day with the ICOM girls finishing in 1st place overall.
Congratulations to all of our ICOM cricketers who competed on the day, we look forward to seeing you all put to the test again in the future.

Primary Interschool Basketball

Both our male and female Primary Interschool Sports basketball teams were out and about last Wednesday as they took on some fierce competition.
All of the students who took part put their best foot forward,
displaying brilliant skills while being humble and well mannered in both victory and defeat.

Year 6 Canberra Camp 2021

This term our Year 6 cohort embarked on their annual Canberra Camp. Excitement and nerves were in the air as the bus was loaded up early on Monday the 1st of March to make the 8 hour journey interstate to Canberra.

Secondary Debating Term 1

On Wednesday the 10th of March the first round of debating for our Secondary Debating Teams took place at Williamstown High School. Islamic College of Melbourne had 10 teams compete over 4 divisions and managed to come home winning 3 debates. A special mention to Layal El Rifai and Razan Kamareddine who both won best speaker in their respective debates despite being on the losing team. Well done to them and all who took part.

Secondary Athletics 2021

Recently our Secondary SAP & Secondary SRC students took part in the High Resolves Social Progress incursion.
While being immersed in an energetic simulation of how countries deal with issues such as global warming, students were able to take on roles that involved negotiation, leadership and developing strategies to form collective action on important international social, economic and political issues.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

On Wednesday the 10th of March our Foundation students participated in an engaging & educational themed day as they embarked upon their very first teddy bear’s picnic! The Foundation students were all invited to bring their favourite teddy bear or soft toy to school with them as they took part in a day packed full of activities focused around teddy bears and involving their toys in the fun.

During literacy and numeracy classes our Foundation students were excited to find the theme of the day was present here too, other activities included teddy bear counting, making their very own teddy bear apron, designing teddy bear head bands to wear for the day, teddy bear sorting and having teddy bear biscuits with chocolate milk for a snack and of course, fairy bread as a treat during lunch time.

Interschool Futsal Results

Last week during the Secondary Interschool Sports carnival the ICOM girls Futsal team defeated AIA placing first overall and bringing the cup, scoring 4 goals to 1. The matches were competitive but in the end our girls prevailed, closing out the day impressively with Ayah Kaddour receiving the golden boot award for scoring an incredible 18 goals over 4 games.

Our Secondary boys Futsal team also did incredibly well on the day, finishing in second place overall. Well done to all of our Secondary students who competed last week, your sporting achievements reflect your drive, focus and discipline.

Interschool Basketball Winners

Congratulations to both of our Secondary Interschool Basketball teams who, as expected, performed exceptionally well this week!

Our Secondary girls Interschool Basketball team (Mariam Taha, Reehana Ibrahim, Razan Kamaredin, Anam Ali, Ayan Ali, Admira Ali, Yasmine Al Nachar, Khadra El Hawli & Jilnar El Bob) placed 1st overall defeating AIA in the grand final, 24-2 while the Secondary boys Interschool Basketball team (Aniq Arizan, Imran Hussein, Mohammad Chaolk, Talal Al Hawli, Sharif Hika, Noah El Houli, Mahmoud Chehade, Daniyal Rafaqat, Rafat El Houli & Zane Taleb) placed 2nd overall.

Primary Wellbeing: Make your boat float

On Tuesday the 2nd of March our Primary Wellbeing Team put on an interactive stall for our Primary students, setting the task of creating a boat out of only paper.

Congratulations to our Primary SRC team for 2021, a strong group of passionate and energetic young leaders with incredibly bright futures ahead of them.

2021 Secondary Information Night

We recently held our annual Secondary Information Night for all Secondary parents. This yearly event is important on many levels, but none more so than providing our valued ICOM parents the opportunity to interact with and get to know their children’s teachers in an informal setting.
