The Islamic College of Melbourne is committed to providing a child safe and child friendly environment where all children feel safe, valued and respected.

The Victorian Government has introduced the Child Safe Standards, which apply to all organisations that provide services for children. These standards aim to protect children from abuse and ensure organisations create environments where children’s safety and wellbeing are actively promoted and protected.

The Islamic College of Melbourne fully supports and complies with the Victorian Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order No. 1359 – Implementing the Child Safe Standards in schools.

Our college has zero tolerance for child abuse and is committed to acting in the best interests of children at all times.

We achieve this by promoting a strong culture of child safety across our entire school community.

The College has implemented a range of policies, procedures and practices designed to:

• Protect children from abuse and harm
• Ensure safe environments for all students
• Empower students to speak up if they feel unsafe
• Support staff, volunteers and the wider school community to understand their responsibilities in protecting children

All staff members, volunteers, contractors and members of the school community share responsibility for maintaining a safe environment for children and are required to comply with the College’s Child Safety Code of Conduct and Child Safety policies.

The College regularly reviews its child safety practices to ensure continuous improvement and to maintain the highest standards of child safety and wellbeing.
