Communication is a skill that influences every stage of a student’s education and future life. At Islamic College of Melbourne, our Public Speaking & Debating Program helps students become confident speakers, thoughtful listeners and critical thinkers in an environment that values respect, evidence and purposeful discussion.

Students learn how to research topics, organise their ideas, present persuasive arguments and respond confidently to different perspectives. Whether speaking before their classmates or representing the College in interschool debating competitions, they develop the confidence to communicate with purpose while strengthening skills that support learning across every subject.

Representing the College

Students have opportunities to represent Islamic College of Melbourne in interschool debating competitions through the Debaters Association of Victoria.

Working collaboratively in teams, they prepare structured arguments, respond to opposing perspectives and deliver formal speeches before an independent adjudicator. These experiences strengthen teamwork, resilience and confidence while giving students the opportunity to apply their skills in an authentic competitive environment.
