Camps & Trips
Some of the most memorable moments of school happen away from the classroom. From Primary camps and Secondary sleepovers to leadership experiences, interstate travel and international programs, students are challenged to step outside their comfort zones, build confidence and strengthen friendships. Each experience has been carefully planned to complement life at Islamic College of Melbourne, creating lasting memories while helping students grow with greater independence, resilience and purpose.
Primary Camps & Experiences
From their first after-hours event to an interstate educational camp, Primary students take part in experiences that build confidence, strengthen friendships and support their personal growth. Each camp is carefully planned for the student's stage of development, providing new opportunities while creating lasting memories along the way.
Year 3 Movie Night & Year 4 Sleepover
Experiences away from the classroom begin gradually, with each year preparing students for the next.
Year 3 students enjoy the annual Movie Night, their first after-hours College experience. Held in a familiar and supportive environment, the evening gives students the opportunity to strengthen friendships and enjoy time together beyond the school day.
In Year 4, students take the next step with an overnight sleepover at the College. Through shared meals, activities and time with classmates and teachers, students build confidence and independence while preparing for future camp experiences.
Sovereign Hill & Canberra Camp
As students progress through Primary School, camps become more immersive and educational, providing opportunities to apply classroom learning in real-world settings while continuing to build confidence and independence.
The Year 5 Sovereign Hill Camp brings Australian history to life through an interactive journey into the Gold Rush era. Students explore the historic township, pan for gold and take part in hands-on experiences that deepen their understanding of one of Australia’s most significant historical periods.
In Year 6, students travel to Australia’s national capital for the annual Canberra Camp. Rugging up for Canberra’s famously cold weather, students visit many of the nation’s most important landmarks and institutions while gaining a deeper understanding of Australia’s history, government and democracy. The experience also helps students develop the confidence, responsibility and resilience needed as they prepare for Secondary School.
Secondary Camps & Signature Trips
Every Secondary camp and trip marks an important stage of the student journey. Whether welcoming students into Secondary School, providing international leadership opportunities or helping Year 12 students prepare for the months ahead, each experience has been carefully designed to support students beyond the classroom while creating memories that last well beyond graduation.
Year 7 Sleepovers
The Year 7 Sleepover is one of the first major experiences of Secondary School, helping students build friendships and settle confidently into their new year level. Held on campus, boys and girls participate separately as they work together to assemble their own tents, prepare and cook a barbecue dinner, and take part in a range of evening activities.
The experience also encourages students to grow in responsibility while maintaining the College’s Islamic values. Students perform Maghrib and Isha prayers together before spending the night on campus, creating lasting memories as they begin their Secondary School journey.
Year 12 Camp
The annual Year 12 Camp provides students with the opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday school life and focus on the final stage of their senior secondary journey. Across three days, students participate in study and exam preparation sessions, careers workshops, team-building activities and recreational experiences designed to strengthen both their confidence and wellbeing.
Alongside academic preparation, students share daily prayers and time for reflection, supporting one another as they prepare for the months ahead. The camp provides an opportunity to reset, strengthen friendships and return to the College focused on achieving their personal best throughout their final year.
Annual ILEAD Study Tour
Exclusive to students enrolled in the Diploma of Islamic Leadership (ILEAD), the annual Malaysia Study Tour extends learning beyond the classroom through an immersive international experience centred on Islamic leadership, scholarship and service.
Each year, participating ILEAD students visit leading universities, attend ILEAD conferences and engage with respected scholars and academics, exploring contemporary leadership, Islamic education and the role of Muslims in serving their communities. The itinerary also includes visits to significant Islamic landmarks such as Masjid Negara, the Putra Mosque, the Iron Mosque, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia and the Nasyrul Quran Complex, providing deeper insight into Islamic civilisation and the preservation of the Holy Quran.
As Australia’s first and only Diploma of Islamic Leadership, ILEAD combines formal study with practical leadership experiences both in Australia and overseas. The annual Malaysia Study Tour is a defining part of this journey, allowing students to strengthen their knowledge, broaden their perspective and connect with the wider Muslim world.
Umrah & Türkiye Trip
The Umrah and Türkiye Trip gives students the opportunity to perform Umrah and visit places of deep historical and Islamic significance across Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. For many Muslims, performing Umrah is a lifelong aspiration, and some may never have the opportunity to undertake the journey. Through this experience, students are able to complete this important act of worship while still at school.
Throughout the trip, students take part in guided visits, shared prayer and reflection as they learn more about the people, places and events that have shaped the Muslim world. Time spent in Makkah and Madinah is complemented by visits across Türkiye, providing a deeper understanding of Islamic civilisation and its enduring legacy.
The trip is open to eligible students, with selected participants also able to receive support through the College’s scholarship program. For many students, it becomes one of the most memorable and spiritually significant experiences of their time at Islamic College of Melbourne.
ICOM places the highest priority on student safety and wellbeing in all camps and excursions.
All camps, trips and programs follow strict risk assessments, supervision ratios and approval processes aligned with the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
Activities are designed to be inclusive, culturally sensitive and age-appropriate – ensuring every student feels supported and secure throughout every experience.
