SAP & IB® (Y9-12)
Students with strong academic ability deserve opportunities that challenge them to think deeply, ask meaningful questions and reach their potential. Beginning in Year 9, the Secondary Accelerated Program (SAP) provides a four-year pathway into the internationally recognised IB® Diploma Programme, developing the knowledge, independence and research skills that prepare students for university and beyond.
SAP & IB® Points of Difference
Every student has different strengths, interests and aspirations. SAP and the IB® Diploma Programme provide an academically challenging pathway for students who are ready to extend their learning, think independently and prepare for university through an internationally recognised qualification.
A Continuous Academic Pathway
Academic growth happens over time. Beginning in Year 9, SAP provides an enriched learning environment that prepares students for the expectations of the IB® Diploma Programme. As students progress through the pathway, they develop the knowledge, confidence and independence needed to succeed in one of the world's leading pre-university qualifications.
Year 9 – Secondary Accelerated Program (SAP)
Students begin their accelerated learning journey through an enriched curriculum designed to challenge their thinking and strengthen core academic skills. Greater emphasis is placed on analytical thinking, independent inquiry, research and problem solving while building the study habits and resilience needed for senior secondary learning.
Year 10 – Pre-IB® Preparation
Year 10 builds on the foundations established in SAP, preparing students for the academic expectations of the IB® Diploma Programme. Students continue to strengthen their writing, research and critical thinking skills while making informed subject selections aligned with their strengths, interests and future university aspirations.
Years 11 & 12 – IB® Diploma Programme
Students undertake the internationally recognised IB® Diploma Programme, studying a broad curriculum while developing expertise in their chosen Higher Level subjects. Through independent research, critical thinking and academic inquiry, students graduate well prepared for university and opportunities both within Australia and internationally.
Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS)
Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) is a core element of the IB® Diploma Programme, encouraging students to apply their learning beyond the classroom through meaningful experiences that develop initiative, leadership and a commitment to serving others.
At Islamic College of Melbourne, students complete a wide range of CAS experiences, including community service, leadership opportunities and collaborative projects that make a positive contribution to those around them. Students also have the opportunity to participate in national and international CAS trips, where they build independence, strengthen intercultural understanding and develop a broader perspective while engaging in authentic service and educational experiences. These opportunities complement academic study and help prepare students to become confident, compassionate and globally minded young adults.
