Welcome to ICOM Primary

From a child's first day of school through to the end of Primary, our focus is on building confident learners who love coming to school, develop a strong Islamic identity, and approach learning with curiosity. These reflections highlight how ICOM nurtures students from their earliest years and prepares them for a successful transition into Secondary College and beyond.

From the Primary Leadership Team

Our Primary years lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning, blending academic excellence, Islamic values, and genuine care for every child. From Foundation to Year 6, students grow in knowledge, character, and confidence within a community that knows them well. Hear from our Primary leaders as they share their vision for learning, student development, and the foundations that guide every child's journey through Primary School at ICOM.

"Our goal is to lay strong foundations for lifelong learning in an environment where children feel safe, connected, and happy to come to school each day. Through strong relationships, a focus on wellbeing, and an Islamic foundation, students develop the confidence to learn, show respect, and always strive to do their best."

Ms Fatima Arakji, Assistant Principal and Head of Primary

"In a world where information is always within reach, one of the most important skills we can teach is how to learn. By fostering curiosity and a growth mindset, we help students develop the confidence to tackle new ideas, explore unfamiliar subjects, and prepare for success in Secondary School and beyond."

Ms Bushra Khateeb, Deputy Head of Primary and Director of Teaching & Learning

What Makes Primary at ICOM Different

Balanced Learning

The Victorian Curriculum, enriched with Islamic Studies and Arabic, ensures a broad and holistic education for every student.

Faith in Practice

Quran recitation, daily prayer and meaningful Islamic learning are woven into everyday school life.

Nurturing Environment

A culture of wellbeing, belonging and care supports every child to grow at their own pace.

Learning Philosophy

Teaching in our Primary years is guided by inquiry, curiosity and connection. Students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically and explore ideas — supported by teachers who understand how to meet each learner where they are. Progress is recognised through regular feedback and semester reporting, ensuring families stay informed and students stay motivated.

Curriculum Overview

Our curriculum follows the Victorian Curriculum F–6, complemented by Arabic and Islamic Studies. Students develop literacy, numeracy, curiosity, and compassion through inquiry-based learning.

Faith in Learning

Faith is part of everyday life at ICOM Primary. Students engage in Quran recitation and daily prayer, deepening their understanding of Islamic values through both learning and lived experience. Signature events such as the Ramadan Assembly, Hajj Simulation and Eid celebrations bring the community together and bring faith to life in meaningful, memorable ways.
