Pre-VCE (Year 9 & 10)

Students strengthen their analytical, communication and writing skills through increasingly complex texts and ideas. Learning emphasises critical thinking, persuasive communication and independent inquiry, preparing students for the academic demands of senior secondary study.

Students extend their mathematical reasoning through algebra, geometry, statistics and problem-solving. Learning develops confidence, accuracy and analytical thinking while providing a strong foundation for future pathways, including VCE, VCE VM and the IB Diploma Programme.

Science encourages students to investigate the natural world through practical investigations and evidence-based learning. As students progress through Years 9 and 10, they develop a deeper understanding of Biology, Chemistry and Physics while strengthening the scientific thinking required for senior studies.

Students examine historical, geographical, political and economic issues from both Australian and global perspectives. Through research, discussion and analysis, they develop informed viewpoints and a broader understanding of the world around them.

Students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to maintain healthy, active lifestyles while exploring topics including physical wellbeing, respectful relationships and personal development. Practical activities encourage teamwork, resilience and lifelong participation in physical activity.

Students build practical digital skills through programming, data analysis and emerging technologies while developing an understanding of cybersecurity, ethical technology use and digital problem-solving. Learning prepares students for a technology-driven future across a wide range of careers.

Students strengthen their recitation, memorisation and understanding of the Holy Quran through continued study of tajweed, tafseer and reflection. Learning encourages students to deepen their connection with the Quran while applying its teachings to everyday life.

Students deepen their understanding of Islamic beliefs, history and contemporary issues while exploring how faith shapes character and decision-making. Through discussion and reflection, students are encouraged to apply Islamic principles with confidence in their daily lives.

Students begin exploring future education and career pathways through structured careers education, helping them better understand their strengths, interests and aspirations while making informed subject selections for Years 11 and 12. Students also participate in the annual ICOM Careers Expo, where they can engage with universities, training providers and industry representatives while exploring a wide range of tertiary and career opportunities.

Pastoral Care supports students as they navigate the increasing responsibilities of Years 9 and 10. Through dedicated wellbeing sessions, students strengthen their organisation, resilience and decision-making while continuing to develop positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging within the College.

Electives provide students with the opportunity to personalise their learning by exploring areas of interest beyond the core curriculum. Through a broad range of elective offerings, students can develop practical skills, discover new strengths and gain valuable experience in subjects that support future senior secondary pathway decisions. Elective offerings may vary between year levels and are reviewed periodically to meet the needs and interests of students.
