Primary at ICOM
Primary School is where children discover who they are as learners. From Foundation to Year 6, students at Islamic College of Melbourne are challenged to achieve their best while growing in faith, confidence and independence. Guided by dedicated teachers and Islamic values, every year builds upon the last, preparing students for Secondary School and for life beyond the classroom.
Every Stage Matters
No two years of Primary School are the same. As students grow, so do the expectations, experiences and opportunities available to them. Learning is carefully planned to ensure every child continues moving forward with confidence.
Life in Primary
Every day in Primary School has purpose.
Students move between classroom learning, specialist subjects, prayer, outdoor play, assemblies and shared experiences that help them develop positive habits and strong relationships. Teachers and Support Staff know every child well, creating classrooms where students feel supported, challenged and ready to learn.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Some of the most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom.
Throughout the year, students participate in themed weeks, sporting events, incursions, excursions and faith-based programs that broaden their learning and strengthen their connection to College life. Events such as Hajj Week, Literacy Week and Arabic Week have become highlights of the Primary calendar and are eagerly anticipated by students each year.
Belonging at ICOM
Children learn best when they feel they belong.
Positive relationships between students and teachers create a welcoming environment where children feel known, respected and supported. Through Houses, buddy programs, assemblies and leadership opportunities, students develop confidence while learning the importance of respect, responsibility and service to others.
From the Primary Leadership Team
Our Primary years lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning, blending academic excellence, Islamic values, and genuine care for every child. From Foundation to Year 6, students grow in knowledge, character, and confidence within a community that knows them well. Hear from our Primary leaders as they share their vision for learning, student development, and the foundations that guide every child's journey through Primary School at ICOM.
"Our goal is to lay strong foundations for lifelong learning in an environment where children feel safe, connected, and happy to come to school each day. Through strong relationships, a focus on wellbeing, and an Islamic foundation, students develop the confidence to learn, show respect, and always strive to do their best."
Ms Fatima Arakji, Vice Principal and Head of Primary
"In a world where information is always within reach, one of the most important skills we can teach is how to learn. By fostering curiosity and a growth mindset, we help students develop the confidence to tackle new ideas, explore unfamiliar subjects, and prepare for success in Secondary School and beyond."
Director of Teaching & Learning and Deputy Head of Primary
