Primary School is where children discover who they are as learners. From Foundation to Year 6, students at Islamic College of Melbourne are challenged to achieve their best while growing in faith, confidence and independence. Guided by dedicated teachers and Islamic values, every year builds upon the last, preparing students for Secondary School and for life beyond the classroom.

No two years of Primary School are the same. As students grow, so do the expectations, experiences and opportunities available to them. Learning is carefully planned to ensure every child continues moving forward with confidence.
Life in Primary
Every day in Primary School has purpose.
Each day is carefully planned to provide the right balance of classroom learning, specialist subjects, prayer, outdoor play, assemblies and shared experiences. Together, these opportunities develop knowledge, build independence and establish the routines that support students throughout their education. With teachers and Support Staff who know every child well, students are encouraged to grow in confidence while being challenged to achieve their best.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Some of the most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom.
Throughout the year, students participate in themed weeks, sporting events, incursions, excursions and faith-based programs that extend learning beyond the classroom. Experiences such as Hajj Week, Literacy Week, Arabic Week, Multicultural Week, Kindness Day and our annual Athletics Carnival reinforce classroom learning, strengthen students’ understanding of faith and culture, and create opportunities to develop new skills, build confidence and engage with the wider College community.
Belonging at ICOM
Children learn best when they feel a sense of belonging.
Every student joins one of our four Houses, Iman (Blue), Ilm (Yellow), Hikmah (Red) or Najah (Green), becoming part of a community that supports, encourages and celebrates them throughout their journey at the College. Together with positive relationships with teachers, buddy programs, assemblies and leadership opportunities, the House system helps students build confidence, strengthen friendships and develop respect, responsibility and service to others.
