The VCE-Vocational Major is a senior pathway for students who learn best through doing.
It combines academic study with nationally recognised vocational training, community projects and workplace experience — helping students graduate job-ready, confident and clear about their direction.
Program Overview
The VCE-Vocational Major replaces the previous VCAL program and provides a structured, applied-learning pathway within the VCE framework.
Students complete core studies in Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills alongside VCE-VET industry certificates and structured workplace learning.
The program develops teamwork, initiative and job-readiness while maintaining the academic foundation of the VCE — ensuring students leave with both practical experience and a recognised credential.

Literacy & Numeracy
Real-world reading, writing and maths through work and community contexts.
Work Related Skills
Safe work practices, teamwork, project management, and workplace problem-solving.
Personal Development Skills
Leadership, communication and community engagement.
VCE-VET Industry Certificate
Students select a vocational stream (e.g., Allied Health, Business, ICT, Sport & Recreation, Laboratory Skills).
Structured Workplace Learning
Practical experience aligned to the student’s VET field.
Industry Certificates Offered
ICOM students can complete nationally recognised Certificate II or III qualifications that provide credit towards the VCE and a pathway into further education, apprenticeships or employment.
